Gifted Screening and Identification

Rock Hill elementary third grade students are screened each year with an aptitude test to determine eligibility for gifted services.  Some students qualify for services based on the results of this test and some are retested with an achievement test if the screening results indicate the need for further assessment.  Students are referred by parents and teachers for subsequent testing on a continuing basis throughout the eighth grade. Parents and teachers may pick up referral forms at any time from Mrs. Haynes.  Students may qualify for gifted services when they are identified as having Superior Cognitive Ability based on qualifying scores on a state-approved aptitude test.  Students are also eligible for gifted services when they are identified as having qualifying scores on a state-approved achievement test in an academic area such as reading, math, science or social studies.
