📣 A Message from the Principal

I would like to welcome guardians and students to Rock Hill Middle School. As a graduate of Rock Hill, it is an honor to serve as your child's principal. My philosophy is the academic success lies within the cultivation of building a strong community, teaching the standards, and constructing strong professional relationships with stakeholders. The fostering of academic networks between staff members and guardians plays a crucial role in bridging the gap seen in schools today. These partnerships build trust and community. As a result, our children will gain the necessary confidence to ask questions in class, be motivated to come to school each day, set goals, acquire a thirst for knowledge, and leave a lasting legacy as he or she enters the next chapter of life. Our goal as educators is for your child to achieve inside and outside of school. I want every child to know they have a purpose as a member of our middle school community. Jason Owens, Principal

👤 Meet Our Administrative Team

Principal Jason Owens

Leads RHMS in academics, instructional leadership, student success, and day-to-day operations.

Mr. Jason Owens, Rock Hill Middle School Principal, is currently in his eighteenth year as an educator. He began his career teaching English for five years at the middle school, before assuming the roles as assistant principal in 2012 and principal in 2016. During that time, he coached boys’ basketball for several years and later served as the middle school co-athletic director.

Mr. Owens is a 2000 graduate of Rock Hill High School. He holds multiple degrees from Ohio University, including a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Economics, a Bachelor of Science in Education with concentrations in English and History, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration.

He enjoys hunting, fishing, going to ball games, reading, and spending time with his family. Following the Golden Rule is at the forefront of his philosophy while also instilling a passion that each student has a role in the Redmen community. “By partnering with stakeholders, teaching the content standards, building positive professional relationships, and getting kids excited to come to school to learn will allow our students to become lifelong learners, ultimately building upon the academic success of our district.”

Assistant Principal Zach Howard

Leads RHMS in PBIS, and supports discipline, attendance initiatives, and instructional leadership.

Mr. Zachary Howard, Assistant Principal, is a 2003 graduate of Rock Hill High School in his eighth year with Rock Hill Middle School. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Ohio University, a Master of Arts in Education from the University of the Cumberlands, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Asbury University. Before coming to RHMS, he taught for six years in the Greenup County (Kentucky) School District and four years with Lawrence County Early Childhood Academy.

Guidance Counselor Andrea Hairston

Provides academic, emotional, and social support for all students; coordinates testing and scheduling.

I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Ohio University. I completed my Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Technology at the American College of Education. I completed my Master of Arts (M.A.) in Counseling P-12 from Morehead State University.

I became a teacher with the Rock Hill Local School District where I have taught 7th and 8th grade Reading, 7th grade English, 6th grade Math, 7th grade Math, and 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade Computer Technology. I have been our building state testing coordinator for the past 9 years. During my time at the Rock Hill Local School District, I have coached various sports as well.
