🏫 History of Rock Hill Middle School
📍 Our Roots
Rock Hill Middle School is part of the Rock Hill Local School District, proudly located in the rolling hills of southern Ohio. The district itself was formed in 1949 through the consolidation of four smaller districts: Hanging Rock, Kitts Hill, Pedro, and Decatur. The name “Rock Hill” is a nod to the union of these historic communities, blending “Rock” from Hanging Rock and “Hill” from Kitts Hill.
🏗️ Growth and Development
Originally spread across several buildings and campuses, Rock Hill Local Schools underwent significant reorganization and construction beginning in the early 2000s. In 2002, the district opened a single campus designed to house all students from Pre-K through 12th grade. This modernization project allowed for better resource sharing, centralized transportation, and a stronger sense of community among students and staff.
Rock Hill Middle School now serves students in grades 6 through 8, providing a rigorous academic foundation while supporting students through the critical transition from elementary to high school.
🧭 Our Mission
Rock Hill Middle School is guided by the district-wide commitment to:
Live RED: Respect, Effort, and Decisions
These core values are embedded in our academics, student behavior expectations, and school culture.
We strive to educate the whole child by promoting academic excellence, social and emotional development, and community involvement.
🏅 Pride and Tradition
RHMS is home to the Redmen, a symbol of pride and resilience rooted in local heritage. The school honors tradition through long-standing programs like:

Each year, our staff and students continue to build on the legacy of Rock Hill through hard work, school spirit, and community pride.
🗺️ Looking Ahead
While we honor our past, Rock Hill Middle School remains future-focused — preparing students to succeed in high school, college, careers, and beyond. With the support of families, staff, and the broader Rock Hill community, RHMS continues to grow as a place where students are empowered to learn, lead, and thrive.
